Bihar goes under lockdown till May 15 amid Covid surge

Nitish Kumar tweeted on Tuesday, "After discussions with fellow ministers and officials on Monday, it has been decided to implement a complete lockdown in Bihar till May 15. The Disaster Management Group has been instructed to take action on Tuesday in relation to the lockdown's detailed guidelines and other activities."

A total of 4,06,339 beneficiaries of the age group between 18 and 44 years received their first dose of Covid vaccine across 12 states and Union Territories. These are Chhattisgarh (1,025), Delhi (40,028), Gujarat (1,08,191), Haryana (55,565), Jammu and Kashmir (5,587), Karnataka (2,353), Maharashtra (73,714), Odisha (6,802), Punjab (635), Rajasthan (76,151), Tamil Nadu (2,744) and Uttar Pradesh (33,544).

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the only way to stop the apocalyptic march of the pandemic was an immediate complete lockdown with the protection of NYAY scheme for the vulnerable sections. "Government of India (GOI) doesn't get it. The only way to stop the spread of Corona now is a full lockdown - with the protection of NYAY for the vulnerable sections." he tweeted.

A bench headed by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud said it wasn't open for the West Bengal government to frame a parallel law when the field was already occupied by a parliamentary legislation, Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (RERA). Directing to strike down the West Bengal law, the top court observed, "this will prevent chaos." The top court also added that it won't invalidate registration, allotment & past transactions made under HIRA.

Dip in new Covid cases continues as India crosses 2 Cr-mark

It is the 13th straight day when India recorded more than three lakh cases while over 3,000 casualties have been reported for the past seven days. India's total tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,02,82,833 with 34,47,133 active cases and a total of 2,22,408 deaths so far. According to MoHFW, a total of 3,20,289 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours after getting cured.
Scientists say govt was aware about new Covid virus, surge in cases

Dr. M. Vidyasagar, who is a professor at IIT (Hyderabad), stated that by March 13 this year Covid cases were showing an upward trend but as they did not have requisite data available so they did not make any prediction. The IIT Kanpur study in April also stated that the daily cases in the second wave will increase by May 8. The Kanpur study also predicted a peak of 38 to 44 lakh active cases between May 14 and May 18.
Avoid CT scans in mild Covid cases, suggests AIIMS chief

Addressing a press conference, AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria said one CT scan is equivalent to 300-400 chest X-rays and this increases the risk of having cancer in later life, especially in youth, as one is exposed to harmful radiation. The CT scan will show few patches which will end without any treatment, he noted.
Bihar government heading toward 'total failure' on Covid: Patna HC
