The editorial published in the world's most renowned medical journal said the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) estimates that India will see a staggering 1 million deaths from Covid-19 by August 1. "If that outcome was to happen, Modi's government would be responsible for presiding over a self-inflicted national catastrophe," Lancet said in a scathing criticism of the government.
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar boycotts high-level, ministerial Security Council meeting convened by China
Coming amid tensions between India and China, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's absence stood out as the other 14 members of the Security Council sent minister-level officials to the meeting held virtually. Mamata writes to PM, seeks 550 MT oxygen per day
Stressing on the need of uninterrupted supply of oxygen in view of the rising caseload in the state, the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "It (oxygen requirement) has gone up to 470 MT per day in the last 24 hours and is expected to increase to 550 MT in the next seven to eight days." "The Chief Secretary has already taken up the matter with the Union Health Secretary for urgent allocation of 550 MT medical oxygen to Bengal." she added.
PM reviews Covid situation in three NE states
Officials said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation related to health care facilities and vaccination in these states. Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb thanked the Prime Minister for sending 60 oxygen concentrators. "Thank you Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji & GOI for providing 60 oxygen concentrators to help people of Tripura in its battle against Covid-19." Deb said in a tweet.
Oxygen supply increased, hospitals to have more Covid beds: Kejriwal
"Now that Delhi has received oxygen, no one in Delhi should suffer because of shortage of oxygen. All the hospitals in Delhi should increase their beds. District Magistrates have been directed to ensure adequate oxygen beds in their districts so that no deaths happen due to lack of oxygen in Delhi," Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in a statement.

Supreme Court declines to entertain DJB plea on water shortage against Haryana
A three-judge bench of Justices L. Nageswara Rao, A.S. Bopanna and V. Ramasubramanian granted liberty to the DJB to approach the Upper Yamuna River Board, with their prayer relating to allocation of water to Delhi. It asked the board to consider the representation made by the DJB, clarifying that the top court is not expressing any opinion on merits of the case.
Delhi received 577 MT oxygen on May 6, AAP Govt says not enough
Sharing the oxygen bulletin with the press digitally, Chadha said Delhi received only 577 metric tonnes of oxygen from the Centre on May 6. On May 5 Delhi had received 730 metric tonnes of oxygen. Chadha said Delhi's oxygen demand has risen to 976 metric tonnes per day of which only 69 per cent was supplied to Delhi on Thursday.
Supreme Court refuses to interfere with Central Vista, asks HC to grant early hearing
A bench comprising Justices Vineet Saran and Dinesh Maheshwari granted the petitioner liberty to mention the matter before the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court for early hearing. The bench also asked the high court to preferably consider the plea for an early hearing. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, submitted that the high court has kept the matter for hearing on May 17.
