Over 1.55 Lakh Candidates Enroll for PM Internship Scheme Within 24 Hours

The government plans to help approximately 10 million youth in the next five years. The scheme was introduced in the Union Budget 2024 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. This shall, hopefully, address the serious problem of unemployment amid the young population and connect the youth with those companies looking out for talent.

Government sources told news outlets that over 1.55 lakh candidates have enrolled for the new PM Internship Scheme within 24 hours of its launch. The Scheme began registering on Saturday, offering nearly 80,000 internship opportunities in 24 sectors on the portal.

Nineteen ninety-three companies form a group that includes large private enterprises like Jubilant Foodworks (NS:JUBI), Maruti Suzuki (NS:MRTI) India, Larsen and Toubro, Muthoot Finance (NS:MUTT), and Reliance Industries (NS:RELI).
Internships can be requested across 24 sectors and over 20 fields such as operations management, production, maintenance, and sales.
The sectors that add to the initiative include oil and gas, energy, travel and hospitality, automotive, and banking.

Aadhaar-based registration and bio-data generation tools ensure the easy accessibility to internships across sectors.

The scheme has targeted more than 1.2 lakh internships in 737 districts across 28 States and 8 Union Territories this fiscal year.

Top companies also offer positions that would help bridge skill gaps and boost employment.

The government initiative is a transformational move that aims to ensure that the skills of the youth augment their employability, the ministry, managing the scheme, said.

The selected youths would be provided with an internship opportunity in the top 500 companies in India for one year besides a monthly allowance of Rs 5,000 and an added one-time grant of Rs 6,000.

This stipend will amount to Rs 5,000, of which Rs 500 will come from companies from CSR funds and the remaining Rs 4,500 from the government.

The candidates could be high school or higher secondary school pass outs, hold an ITI certificate or Polytechnic diploma, or graduates with a degree in BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Pharma, etc. to engage in the Scheme.
