Outgoing US envoy meets RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, discusses Indian tradition, inclusivity

The United States acting ambassador Atul Keshap on Wednesday met Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat and discussed India’s tradition of diversity, democracy, inclusivity, and pluralism.

This meeting gains significance as it has come days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi takes flight to the US to meet President Joe Biden and hold a bilateral meeting as well as attend the Quad summit.

Keshap tweeted a photo with Bhagwat and said that India’s qualities can ensure the vitality and strength of a truly great nation.

“Good discussion with Shri Mohan Bhagwat about how India’s tradition of diversity, democracy, inclusivity, and pluralism can ensure the vitality and strength of a truly great nation,” Keshap said.

He further said that US-India relations have never been better and that the two democracies will continue to work together for years to come.

Before departing from India, Keshap met several leaders including Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday He is expected to return to the US shortly, after completing just over two months as Charge D’Affaires.

“The U.S.-India relationship has never been better. Working together, our two great democracies will continue to advance human happiness around the world for years to come,” Mr. Keshap said in a statement announcing his departure.

Keshap will officiate until Joe Biden’s Ambassadorial nominee Eric Garcetti, who is the Mayor of Los Angeles, receives confirmation from the US. As the US Senate is in recess, the process is likely to take months. Until now, the Senate has cleared only one Ambassador posting with 65 more positions still pending to be approved, the Hindu reported.
