The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a prime suspect in the illegal smuggling of a person to the United States, who was deported to India last week. The accused, Gagandeep Singh, was arrested in New Delhi, the agency said.
As per the NIA, the victim had been brought to the US last December through the "donkey route" an illegal immigration route. In a complaint submitted by the victim, it was stated that he had paid the agent around ₹45 lakh for illegal immigration services.
The agency inquiry revealed that Gagandeep Singh had neither a proper license, lawful permit, nor any registration to help arrange international travel. However, he planned the victim's unauthorized travel via an intricate route including Spain, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico, prior to attempting entry in the United States.
