On 26 May 2025, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer on allegations of passing sensitive information to Pakistan's intelligence handlers. Upon his arrest, the CRPF sacked him on the spot.
The person who has been named as Moti Ram Jat, an Assistant Sub Inspector in the CRPF, was said to be involved in espionage, having divulged sensitive information related to national security to Pakistan Intelligence Officers (PIOs) since 2023, as per the NIA.
It was found during investigations that Jat was being given monetary compensation by the PIOs in various ways.
Moti Ram was arrested from Delhi and was then put in NIA custody until June 6, as directed by a Special Court at Patiala House Courts.
Following the establishment of his link with Pakistani handlers, the CRPF formally terminated Mr. Jat on Monday.
"During close observation of social media movement by CRPF personnel, in conjunction with Central agencies, one person was identified to have acted contrary to set norms and procedures," the CRPF said. It also added that the accused had been taken into custody by the NIA for further investigation.
"Meanwhile, the person has been relieved of service with effect from 21.05.2025, in terms of the relevant provisions of the Constitution of India read with the CRPF Rules," it added.
