Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu allegedly owes Rs 8.67 lakh to the state power utility Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) as he has not paid his electricity bill for the last 8 months.
Sidhu on Friday had come up with a solution for the unprecedented power crisis that has gripped the state. Soon after his comments, photographs of his impending electricity bill started circulating on social media.
The bill showed a whopping amount of Rs 8,67,540 that was yet to be paid with due date of July 2. The state power utility PSPCL website reflected the same amount with the same details. It said that the bill was for his Amritsar home.

Both Navjot Singh Sidhu and the officials of PSPCL have not yet put out any official statements regarding the matter.
Earlier in the day, Sidhu had suggested a law to nullify the power purchase agreements (PPAs) signed during the tenure of the previous SAD-BJP government.
In a series of tweets, Sidhu had taken a dig at the state government decision to curtail the office hours in view of the power crisis. He had suggested ways to ensure how the state can get out of a difficult power situation seeking a relook at the agreements with private thermal plants in the state.

Incidentally, when Sidhu was stripped of the Local Bodies portfolio, Amarinder Singh had offered him the charge of the power ministry, which the former had refused and quit the cabinet in 2019.
"Captain saab, if you have got some time from harassing the people of Punjab with power crises, then please pay your attention to the minister who has pending electricity bills worth lakhs of rupees. And shower your blessings upon him," SAD took a jibe with a meme on Sidhu.
