Ladakh Standoff: 14th round of commander-level talks may take place soon as China responds positively for early meeting

China's positive response to the meeting has reportedly come in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's efforts to resolve the growing tensions between New Delhi and Beijing in order to establish more stability in Eurasia. Putin's close aide had recently said that India, China and Russia may hold trilateral summit-level talks soon.

India has received a positive response from China regarding the proposal to hold the next (14th) round of senior army commanders' meeting at the earliest possible date, Economic Times reported quoting its sources. China's positive response to the meeting has reportedly come in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's efforts to resolve the growing tensions between New Delhi and Beijing in order to establish more stability in Eurasia. Putin's close aide had recently said that India, China and Russia may hold trilateral summit-level talks soon. The 14th round of army talks between India and China will aim to find ways for complete disengagement at all the friction points along the LAC in the western sector, the report added. The date for the next round of meeting is yet to be finalised.

3. China had agreed to hold the 14th round of commanders' talk at the 23rd meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC), which was held earlier in November. However, the next round of talks was delayed by China and has been pending for the past few months.

4. As per media reports, critics said that China has delayed the decision on the army commanders' meeting in order to maintain the status quo.

5. At the WMCC meet, both the countries had agreed to ensure a stable ground situation and avoid any untoward incident, as per an official statement. They also agreed to continue their discussions to resolve the remaining issues along the LAC in eastern Ladakh.

6.  The 13th round of the India-China corps commander-level meeting was held at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point. The meeting had discussions focused on issues along the LAC in eastern Ladakh and India had also pointed out China's attempts that were causing violation of the bilateral agreements.
