Kapurthala Lynching: FIR to be amended, says Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi as autopsy reveals around 30 deep cut wounds

The body of the youth beaten to death on Sunday was sent for post-mortem and a report was prepared by a board of five doctors. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday said that there was no sign of sacrilege attempt in the Kapurthala incident. The boy was accused of disrespecting the Nishan Sahib, the Sikh religious flag.

The man lynched by a mob in Kapurthala gurdwara earlier on Sunday had around 30 deep wounds in his body. These cuts mere majorly inflicted by sharp-edged swords, the autopsy reports revealed. The body of the youth beaten to death on Sunday was sent for post-mortem and a report was prepared by a board of five doctors. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday said that there was no sign of sacrilege attempt in the Kapurthala incident. The boy was accused of disrespecting the Nishan Sahib, the Sikh religious flag. The initial investigation by the Punjab Police had also disclosed that there was no visible sign of sacrilege.

1. The victim had deep cuts on his neck and head, senior medical officer Dr. Narinder Singh said. The youth's wind and food pipes were cut and the unidentified body was cremated after four days of his death.

2. The DNA samples of the youth have been preserved by the medical team for a match in case his family reaches out to the police.

3. As no evidence of sacrilege was found by the Punjab Police during investigations, a murder case was filed against the Gurudwara caretaker, Amarjit Singh, who had accused the youth of disrespecting the religious flag on social media.

4. Around 100 unnamed people were listed in the case of the mob lynching. Out of the 100 people, 25 to 30 were armed with weapons like swords and sticks, the police said.

5. "We did not find any sacrilege attempt in Kapurthala or any evidence to back it. One person ran the Gurdwara. This thing has moved to murder and the inquiry is on. The FIR (already registered in the case) will be amended," the Punjab Chief Minister told reporters.
