Joint Call for Justice: India and US Demand Accountability for 26/11 and Pathankot Attacks

During the 20th meeting of the US-India Counter Terrorism Joint Working Group and the 6th Designations Dialogue held in Washington D.C., Ambassador Elizabeth Richard and Ambassador K D Dewal led their respective delegations to address emerging threats and tactics in terrorism. They discussed various issues, such as terrorist recruitment, financing, and radicalization to violence, as well as the use of the internet and new technologies by terrorists.

The United States and India have jointly emphasized the importance of bringing to justice those responsible for the 26/11 Mumbai and Pathankot terrorist attacks, reaffirming their commitment to combating terrorism as a significant threat to global peace and security. In a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs, both nations stressed the need for concerted action against all terrorist groups, including those sanctioned by the United Nations Security Council.

Both countries reiterated their call for justice for the victims of the Mumbai and Pathankot attacks, underscoring the enduring value of the US-India comprehensive global partnership.

The participation of diverse departments and agencies from both nations illustrated their recognition of the need for an inclusive and holistic approach to counter terrorism. Strengthening law enforcement and judicial partnerships, including through enhanced cooperation on mutual legal assistance requests, was also emphasized.

Furthermore, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation in various multilateral forums and processes, such as the Quad Counterterrorism Working Group, the United Nations, the Global Counterterrorism Forum, and the Financial Action Task Force, to advance shared security interests within the region and support a free and open Indo-Pacific.
