On Thursday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced that the Indian government has initiated an inquiry into information received from the United States, citing its relevance to India's national security. The statement came in response to a question posed by CPI-M Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas regarding reports of an Indian official being implicated by US authorities for an alleged attempt to harm a US citizen.
Brittas also highlighted reports of India challenging the stance of the Canadian government on certain issues and inquired about the equitable treatment of both countries. Jaishankar clarified that an inquiry had been launched into the US input due to its connection with organized crime, trafficking, and other security concerns. He confirmed the establishment of an inquiry committee to address the matter.
Concerning Canada, Jaishankar stated that no specific evidence or input had been provided to India. Therefore, the question of equitable treatment does not arise in this context. The minister emphasized the government's commitment to addressing issues related to national security and conducting inquiries where necessary.
