India-Brazil Forge Strategic Partnership with Inaugural '2+2' Political and Military Dialogue in New Delhi

India and Brazil convened their inaugural 2+2 Political and Military Dialogue in New Delhi, marking a significant milestone in their bilateral relations, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Heading the dialogue from the Indian side were Additional Secretary (LAC) GV Srinivas, representing the MEA, and Joint Secretary (IC) Vishwesh Negi from the Ministry of Defence.

Taking to the social media platform X, MEA's official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared the event with enthusiasm, labeling it as an "Energising – Strategic Partnership!"

The dialogue, co-chaired by Indian officials and their Brazilian counterparts, Director Marcelo Camara from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Rear Admiral Fernando de Luca Marques de Oliviera from the Ministry of Defence, covered a wide array of topics including defence, space, energy, technology, and more.

Discussions delved into various domains such as defence cooperation, space collaboration, energy security, critical minerals, technological advancements, counter-terrorism efforts, and regional and multilateral concerns, reflecting the depth and breadth of the bilateral engagement.

The warm and cordial relationship between India and Brazil was reiterated during the dialogue, underscoring the significance both nations place on their partnership.

The 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit held in New Delhi witnessed the presence of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who not only attended the summit but also extended support to India's aspirations for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the term 2028-29 during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Looking ahead, Brazil is set to host the 2024 G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, where PM Modi expressed confidence in Brazil's human-centric approach under its G20 Presidency. He emphasized the collective responsibility of G20 members in fostering global peace and stability, echoing the sentiment of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', wherein the world is viewed as one family.
