Indian Crew Member Safely Repatriated from Iran; EAM Jaishankar Commends 'Modi Ki Guarantee

The successful repatriation of Joseph was credited to the collaborative efforts of the Indian Mission in Tehran and the Iranian Government. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) affirmed its ongoing engagement with Iranian authorities to ensure the safety and eventual return of the remaining crew members from the seized container vessel, MSC Aries.

Ann Tessa Joseph, a deck cadet hailing from Thrissur, Kerala, was among the 17 Indian crew members aboard a cargo ship detained by Iran. After a period of uncertainty, Joseph finally returned home, landing safely at Cochin International Airport on Thursday afternoon. Her arrival was met with relief and gratitude, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasizing the efficacy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assurances, both domestically and internationally.

"The Indian Mission in Tehran continues to monitor the situation closely, maintaining communication with the remaining 16 Indian crew members. Fortunately, they are in good health and remain in contact with their families in India. Our dialogue with Iranian authorities persists to safeguard the well-being of all crew members associated with MSC Aries," stated the MEA in a press release.

Earlier discussions between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his Iranian counterpart, Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian, underscored the importance of diplomatic cooperation in resolving the matter. Jaishankar expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts, particularly commending the Indian Mission in Iran for its dedication.
