An alleged stone-pelting incident during a Ram Navami procession in West Bengal's Purba Medinipore district left at least four individuals injured, as reported by the police on Thursday.
According to a senior police official, the incident occurred around 9:10 pm on Wednesday while the procession was passing through College More in Egra. Four individuals have been detained in connection with the incident, the official stated.
In order to disperse the gathering, police resorted to lathi charge, the official added.
"We have intensified security in the area and are currently investigating the incident. The situation is now under control, with four individuals detained," the officer informed PTI.
Reacting to the incident, Agnimitra Paul, a BJP leader and candidate from Medinipore, along with party workers, staged a demonstration by blocking the road.
"Tonight, during the Ram Navami rally, Hindu brothers & sisters were attacked by Jihadis in EGRA, but those responsible for the attack were spared, while the victims were arrested by EGRA PS. BJP activists protested throughout the night," she expressed on X.
