Indian astronaut to join ISS under Indo-US space cooperation, says Dr Jitendra Singh

The Minister chaired an important bilateral meeting on US-India Civil Nuclear Commerce in the national capital. He underlined deepening cooperation between the two nations in critical areas of science, technology, and clean energy.

A not-so-long-ago report has quoted Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh as saying that an Indian astronaut from the 'Gaganyaan' mission will join the International Space Station. He congratulated the event as a milestone in the Indo-US space collaboration.

The Minister chaired an important bilateral meeting on US-India Civil Nuclear Commerce in the national capital. He underlined deepening cooperation between the two nations in critical areas of science, technology, and clean energy.

The high-level delegation from the US was led by John Podesta, Senior Advisor to the President of the United States for International Climate Policy, and David Turk, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Energy.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment toward furthering cooperation in emerging technologies, with shared interests in improving economic growth, national security, and global leadership in technological development.

Dr. Singh said the partnership can secure global supply chains in areas like semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and clean energy technologies that assume a place of immense priority in today's globalized world.

He also underlined the Green Hydrogen Mission as the keystone of India's approach to deep decarbonize heavy industry, transportation, and power generation.

"India has emerged as being admirably placed to lead this transition to a sustainable, resilient energy future with strong policy frameworks and international collaboration," pointed out the Minister to the US delegation.

It is also eyeing international collaboration, investing in research and development, and scoping of regulatory frameworks for supporting the deployment of SMRs.

The Minister added that SMRs will play a serious role in India's clean energy transition to achieve energy self-reliance and meet climate commitments.

Dr. AK Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the government, reiterated the importance of the partnership between Indo and US, terming this not as a knowledge exchange but something that will turn out to be co-creation of solutions shaping the future.

He pointed out the potential for new pathways toward sustainable development and economic prosperity.
