In a major breakthrough on Thursday morning, India has carried out an operation against some Air Defence Radars and systems at different locations in Pakistan. Speaking in a government statement, one of the systems stationed in Lahore was successfully taken out in the operation.
The escalation began in the wee hours of the night of 7-8 May when Pakistan attempted to hit numerous military objectives along Northern and Western India. These were high-technology positions including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj by using missiles and drones during the attack.
India's Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defense systems pushed back these drone and missile attacks, and the wreckage recovered across the board confirmed the nature of the Pakistani attack, the Indian government statement said.
India, on its part, made a significant strike on Pakistan's Air Defence installations and radars at various locations. "The Indian retaliation has kept pace with Pakistan's aggression in terms of reach and intensity. It has been convincingly reported that one Air Defence system in Lahore was destroyed," the statement continued.
While this, India increased its indiscriminate shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) targeting Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors of Jammu and Kashmir with mortars and heavy-caliber guns. The Indian government also added that such incidents by Pakistan have already resulted in the killing of 16 civilians till date, including three women and five children, due to shelling.
"Sixteen harmless lives have been lost, three females and five children, in Pakistani shelling. In retaliation, India has been forced to take measures to bring a halt to the Pakistan mortar and artillery firing," the government statement added.
In spite of the escalation, India reasserted its non-escalation policy, subject to Pakistan maintaining a similar standard. In Operation Sindoor, India, in a May 7 press conference, claimed that its retaliation was non-escalatory, measured, and specific, and no Pakistani military institutions had been struck. It was further clarified that a response against Indian military targets would be appropriately dealt with.
