India launched the revamped e-Migrate portal and mobile app on Monday, aimed at easing safe and lawful overseas travel from the country for its citizens. The revamped portals aim to advance the ease of movement for Indian labour, ensuring laborers' safety and well-being abroad.
EAM S. Jaishankar spoke at the launch saying, "The government is always focused on improving ease of living and people-centric governance.".
Surakshit Jayen, Prashikshit Jayen. And it's a befitting reflection that perhaps today's event says that Jaishankar said of the stamp released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi a year ago during the MEA campaign for raising awareness about safe and legal channels of mobility.
He described the new eMigrate Portal V2.0 as a move toward developing "safer, more transparent, and inclusive mobility" for Indian workers abroad. The portal is in furtherance of Objective 10 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which reads: " safe, orderly, regular, and responsible migration".
EAM Jaishankar highlighted that the revamped platform is far more than just being a digital tool.
It is a beacon of hope, a symbol of our commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of our workers in foreign lands," he said.
Maintaining that India's migrant workforce makes immense contributions both to India's economy and global fame, he said it is frequent that vulnerabilities are faced by Indian migrants abroad. The new platform is to address those challenges.
"Our missions, particularly in the Gulf, have dedicated labor attaches to redress grievances. The new portal also has a 24/7 multilingual helpline for urgent cases, with a feedback system for redressal," Jaishankar said.
The revamped e-Migrate Portal V2.0 has further interfaced with DigiLocker to allow emigrants to upload and securely deposit vital documents such as a passport and employment contract paperlessly, which is convenient and safe.
