India Expresses Concern Over Theft of Religious Artifact from Bangladesh Temple

India High Commission in Dhaka took to 'X' to express extreme concerns over the theft and call upon the authority in Bangladesh to recover the item and take appropriate action against the perpetrators.

India has called on Bangladesh to probe reports that a religious article gifted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Jeshoreshwari Kali temple was stolen during his visit to the country in 2021.

India High Commission in Dhaka took to 'X' to express extreme concerns over the theft and call upon the authority in Bangladesh to recover the item and take appropriate action against the perpetrators.

"We have seen reports of theft of the crown gifted by PM Modi to Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple (Satkhira) in 2021 during his visit to Bangladesh," the statement said.
"We express deep concern and urge Govt of Bangladesh to investigate theft, recover the crown and take action against the perpetrators," it added.
Indian government sources, meanwhile, conveyed that New Delhi is deeply troubled by the reported incident.

The Indian High Commission here confirmed that it was actively liasing with the Bangladeshi authorities on this matter.
The Bangladesh law enforcement agencies have been urged to investigate this incident, recover the stolen article and bring to book the guilty parties, the sources added.
