India Condemns USCIRF Again for Promoting 'Motivated Narrative'

Reacting to media queries on 'Country Update' on India, the USCIRF report, the Ministry of External Affairs criticized the US federal government agency that monitors the universal right to freedom of religion or belief abroad and makes policy recommendations to the country's President, Secretary of State, and US Congress.

The Indian side asked the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) to stop pursuing their "agenda-driven efforts" by fudging facts and peddling a "motivated narrative" about India.

Our views on the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom are also in the public domain. It is a politically motivated and vested interest body. Continues to misrepresent facts and perpetuate a motivated narrative of India. We reject this malafide report that does nothing but further impugn USCIRF's credibility.

"We would urge USCIRF to desist from such agenda driven efforts. The USCIRF would also be well advised to utilise its time more productively on addressing human rights issues in the United States," he added.

Not for the first time, New Delhi has condemned the "biased and inaccurate comments" related to India from the USCIRF. India has done so repeatedly and "regrettably" expressed throughout the years that USCIRF continues to "misrepresent facts" once again in its statements and reports "in pursuance of its motivated agenda".

From Covid-19 and Delhi riots to Citizenship Amendment Bill and religious freedom, the MEA is still trashing USCIRF reports and comments.

The USCIRF is seen as a politically motived biased organization. They continue to write their propaganda about India, coming up with a disguise of an annual report. We really do not expect the USCIRF even to try to understand the ethos of India, which is so diverse, pluralistic and democratic. Their efforts to interfere with the world's largest electoral exercise will never succeed," Jaiswal had said during a media briefing, a few months ago.
