IMD Forecasts Continued Dense to Very Dense Fog for Next Two Days

Minimum temperatures in several regions are recorded between 7-11 degrees Celsius across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted persistent dense to very dense fog across many parts of Northwest India for the next 48 hours, gradually tapering off thereafter. Additionally, light isolated rainfall is expected over Northwest and Central India on Saturday and January 2.

Minimum temperatures in several regions are recorded between 7-11 degrees Celsius across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Meanwhile, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, interior Odisha, and Jharkhand are experiencing temperatures ranging between 12-14 degrees Celsius.

The IMD highlighted that these temperatures are notably higher, approximately 2-4 degrees Celsius above the normal range, affecting multiple areas including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, interior Odisha, and Jharkhand.

As of 8:30 a.m., dense to very dense fog prevailed in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and in numerous places across Uttar Pradesh, with some areas in north Rajasthan and Uttarakhand also experiencing similar conditions.

Similar weather patterns were observed in select regions of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh, with cold day to severe cold day conditions observed in multiple locations across Punjab, some parts of Haryana, and isolated areas in Uttar Pradesh.

The IMD forecasts the continuation of dense to very dense fog in most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi until Sunday morning, extending to some pockets for the subsequent three days.

Additionally, owing to a fresh easterly wave, light to moderate isolated to scattered rainfall is anticipated over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep until January 2, with isolated heavy rainfall expected over Tamil Nadu on January 1 and 2.
