After the eviction of protesting farmers from the Shambhu border, security forces in Haryana began dismantling cement barricades early Thursday morning. These barriers were initially placed to prevent farmers from Punjab from heading toward Delhi.
JCB machines were used to clear the cement blocks from the Shambhu-Ambala road, which had been closed for over a year.
The Haryana authorities had reinforced the state border with Punjab using cement blocks, iron spikes, and barbed wire in an effort to block any movement of farmers towards Delhi as part of their 'Delhi Chalo' campaign.
On Wednesday, Punjab Police arrested several farmer leaders, including Sarwan Singh Pandher and Jagjit Singh Dallewal, in Mohali. They had been returning from a meeting with a central government delegation led by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Chandigarh.
Additionally, the police cleared the protest sites at Shambhu and Khanauri, which had been blocked for more than a year.
