General Bipin Rawat, his wife to be cremated in Delhi with full military honours today

The last rites of India's first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat who lost their lives in an ill-fated chopper crash will be performed with full military honours on Friday at Brar Square crematorium in Delhi Cantonment. The mortal remains of both CDS Gen Rawat and his wife will be cremated at Delhi Cantonment and the funeral procession will start from Kamraj Marg and reach Brar Square.
 

General Bipin Rawat's funeral procession: Key Points


1. The mortal remains of the first CDS and the others who lost their lives in the unfortunate crash were brought to Palam Airbase in Delhi from Sulur in caskets wrapped in the Tricolour on Thursday.

2. The bodies of Gen Rawat and his wife will be taken to their residence at Kamaraj Marg it will be kept there from 11 am to 12:30 pm for the general public to pay their final respects, according to the news agency PTI.

3. The military personnel will pay their tribute from 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm and the funeral procession of Gen Rawat from his home to the Brar Square crematorium is scheduled to begin around 2 pm, PTI added. Later at 4 pm, Gen Rawat's funeral will be performed. The funeral of Brigadier LS Lidder, whose body was also identified as one of the 13 casualties, will be held at 9 am.

4. The other bodies are being kept in the mortuary at the Army Base Hospital till they are identified. According to media reports, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt, three service chiefs and other senior military officials are among those who are expected to be present at the cremation of General Rawat.
