EAM Jaishankar Highlights Discussion on Russia-Ukraine Conflict in Talks with Ukrainian FM

Marking the first high-level visit by a Ukrainian leader since the inception of the Russian invasion of Kyiv in 2022, Kuleba embarked on his two-day official journey to India on Thursday, aiming to rejuvenate bilateral ties.

Engaging in a comprehensive dialogue with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delved into Kyiv's ongoing conflict with Russia and explored various initiatives during their exchange.

Marking the first high-level visit by a Ukrainian leader since the inception of the Russian invasion of Kyiv in 2022, Kuleba embarked on his two-day official journey to India on Thursday, aiming to rejuvenate bilateral ties.

"Today, had an extensive conversation with Ukraine FM @DmytroKuleba. Our deliberations centered on the persisting conflict and its broader implications. We shared perspectives on several initiatives within that framework," EAM Jaishankar shared in a social media post.
 

"We also addressed global and regional issues of mutual interest. Reaffirmed our dedication to bolstering the overall relationship, encompassing bilateral collaboration," the minister added.

In his opening statements during the meeting at Hyderabad House, S. Jaishankar expressed that Kuleba's visit presents India with "an opportunity to grasp the situation in your own region. And I eagerly await your insights on that."

Referring to the "momentum" in bilateral relations, the EAM noted that both nations have engaged in interactions across various levels in recent months.

"I'm pleased to witness some of our bilateral mechanisms coming into play, fostering a certain momentum in our bilateral ties," he remarked.

On his inaugural visit to India, Kuleba, in a social media post on Thursday, expressed his intention to bolster the dialogue initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for peace.

Additionally, he mentioned that his discussions in India would encompass Zelensky's peace proposal, comprising a 10-point plan aimed at restoring just and enduring peace in Ukraine.

Kuleba's visit coincides with Prime Minister Modi's recent telephone conversations with the Presidents of Ukraine and Russia. During his discussion with Zelensky, Prime Minister Modi emphasized India's backing for all endeavors toward an early and peaceful resolution of issues between Kyiv and Moscow.

The Prime Minister underscored India's commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution, while Zelensky acknowledged the country's ongoing humanitarian aid for the people of Ukraine.
