EAM Jaishankar Highlights Discussions with Ukrainian FM Centered on Russia Conflict

Marking the first significant visit by a Ukrainian leader since the commencement of the Russian invasion of Kyiv in 2022, Kuleba embarked on his official two-day visit to India on Thursday, aiming to rejuvenate bilateral ties between the two nations.

In a comprehensive and expansive dialogue with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delved into Kyiv's ongoing conflict with Russia and exchanged perspectives on various initiatives during their meeting on Friday.

Taking to social media platform X, EAM Jaishankar expressed, "An extensive and open conversation with Ukraine FM @DmytroKuleba this afternoon. Our discussions primarily revolved around the ongoing conflict and its broader implications. We also shared insights on various initiatives within that context."

The minister further elaborated, stating, "Additionally, we touched upon global and regional matters of mutual interest. I reiterated our commitment to bolstering the overall relationship, encompassing bilateral cooperation."

In his opening statements at the meeting held at Hyderabad House, S. Jaishankar emphasized the significance of Kuleba's visit in providing India "an opportunity to comprehend the situation in your region. I eagerly await hearing your perspectives on this."

Referring to the "momentum" in bilateral relations, the EAM highlighted the recent interactions between the two nations across various levels. "It is heartening to witness engagements through several bilateral mechanisms, fostering a positive momentum in our relationship," he remarked.

Expressing his thoughts on his inaugural visit to India, Kuleba shared on X on Thursday, "I am here in India to further the dialogue initiated between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky towards achieving peace."

Furthermore, he indicated that his discussions in India would encompass the peace proposal put forward by Zelensky, outlining a 10-point plan aimed at reinstating equitable and enduring peace in Ukraine.

Kuleba's visit coincides with Prime Minister Modi's recent telephonic conversations with the Presidents of Ukraine and Russia earlier this month.

During his talks with Zelensky, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India's support for all endeavors towards a prompt and peaceful resolution of issues between Kyiv and Moscow.

He assured that India would continue to extend its support for a peaceful resolution, a sentiment appreciated by Zelensky, who acknowledged the country's ongoing humanitarian assistance for the people of Ukraine.
