Delhi Grapples with Cold, Foggy Conditions Causing Flight Delays, Air Quality Drops to 'Severe'

According to the India Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature dropped to 9.6 degrees Celsius, two notches below the seasonal average.

The recent weather in Northern India, particularly in the national capital, Delhi, has been challenging due to plummeting temperatures and dense fog. The low visibility caused disruptions to flight schedules at the Delhi airport, affecting both international and domestic flights.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature dropped to 9.6 degrees Celsius, two notches below the seasonal average. Saturday's maximum temperature was expected to reach around 23 degrees Celsius with shallow fog.

However, the air quality in Delhi remained a serious concern. Several monitoring stations recorded severe pollution levels. Places like Anand Vihar, Bawana, Dwarka Sector 8, ITO, Okhla Phase-II, and the IGI Airport reported PM 2.5 and PM 10 levels at 500, classified as 'severe.' Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and carbon monoxide (CO) levels varied but generally ranged from moderate to satisfactory, depending on the location.

The high levels of particulate matter and other pollutants indicate severe air pollution, urging people to take necessary precautions to safeguard their health, especially those with respiratory conditions.
