Delhi Air Pollution: Slight improvement in air quality, AQI inches closer to 'very poor' from 'severe' category

The AQI is expected to remain under the 'very poor' category over the weekend and the national capital is likely to observe improved air quality, as per the predictions of the air quality and weather bulletin. The Air Quality Index (AQI) had hit the 400 or 'severe' mark on Friday. The AQI improved from 'severe' to 'very poor' category on Saturday morning as it stood at 398.

National capital Delhi's air quality on Saturday witnessed a slight improvement as it shifted from 'severe' to 'very poor' category, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR). The AQI is expected to remain under the 'very poor' category over the weekend and the national capital is likely to observe improved air quality, as per the predictions of the air quality and weather bulletin.

1. The Air Quality Index (AQI) had hit the 400 or 'severe' mark on Friday. The AQI improved from 'severe' to 'very poor' category on Saturday morning as it stood at 398. With 398, the AQI still remains at the lower end of the 'very poor' category. The level of PM10 and PM2.5 pollutants were recorded in the 'very poor' category, respectively.

2. "The air quality is likely to improve further but remain in the 'very poor' category on December 25 and 26. The outlook for subsequent five Days: The air quality is likely to improve significantly from December 27 when AQI to reach in 'poor/moderate' category," said the air quality and weather bulletin.

3. The national capital's maximum and minimum temperatures dropped to 23 degrees Celsius and 7 degrees Celsius respectively on Saturday morning, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

4. The national capital is likely to witness light rain or drizzle from December 26 to 28, as per IMD predictions.

5. An AQI recorded between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 is considered 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 is 'moderate', 201 and 300 is at 'poor', 301 and 400 is 'very poor', then 401 and between 500 is considered 'severe'.
