Congress Yatra Unfolds in Bengal Amid Shifting Alliance Dynamics; Rahul Expresses Optimism in INDIA Bloc Unity

In the midst of differences within the opposition bloc INDIA regarding seat-sharing in Bengal for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the Congress remains optimistic about unity. As Rahul Gandhi-led 'Yatra' entered the state, Congress leaders expressed confidence that a resolution would be reached. Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary, stated, "Congress president Kharge has spoken with her today, and we will find a way forward." This comes after Mamata Banerjee's decision for TMC to go solo in the polls, blaming Congress for the stalemate.

The 'Yatra' received a warm welcome in West Bengal, with Rahul Gandhi leading the procession. The state Congress workers and president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury enthusiastically greeted the Yatra. However, the roadshow faced protests from TMC activists in Cooch Behar, accusing Chowdhury of destabilizing the INDIA bloc.

Despite the recent political developments, the Congress maintains its commitment to opposition unity. The Yatra, set to traverse various districts in West Bengal before entering Bihar, symbolizes the party's determination to fight against the BJP alongside allies.

Addressing reporters in Cooch Behar, Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP and RSS of spreading hatred and violence, emphasizing the INDIA bloc's united fight against the saffron camp. Responding to Banerjee's decision to contest alone, Jairam Ramesh stressed Mamata Banerjee's crucial role in defeating the BJP in Bengal and India.

Regarding the seat-sharing deadlock, Ramesh expressed the party's desire for a resolution and extended an invitation to Mamata Banerjee to join the Yatra. He emphasized the importance of Banerjee's participation, highlighting the respect Congress leaders have for her.

The CPI (M) and Left parties are expected to join the march, aligning with the Congress in the state and the INDIA bloc at the national level. However, tensions arise over seat allocation, with the TMC's offer of two seats deemed insufficient.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a vocal TMC critic, asserted that Congress would not "beg" for seats from the ruling party in Bengal. Despite the challenges, the Congress aims to navigate through the complexities, recognizing the need for opposition unity to face the BJP in the upcoming elections.
