A Mohali court sentenced Christian preacher Bajinder Singh to life imprisonment on Tuesday in a 2018 rape case. Additional District and Sessions Judge Vikrant Kumar delivered the verdict, where the woman had accused Singh, who was referred to as 'Yeshu Yeshu Prophet,' of committing non-consensual sexual intercourse under the guise of taking her out of the country. The preacher was also accused of creating an obscene video of the woman.
Singh, 42, who is from Jalandhar, was convicted on March 28. A case against him was filed in Zirakpur, Mohali district, on April 20, 2018, under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
Other than Bajinder Singh, five more people, such as pastors Jatinder, Akbar, Sattar Ali, and Sandeep Pehelwan, were also charged with the case. Bajinder Singh, who had raised the spotlight with a claim that he heals sickness by miracles, went to court on Monday, whose verdict was left pending.
Bajinder Singh was slapped with fresh charges of sexual harassment in February 2025 after a viral video of him slapping a woman, who was an employee of his organisation, at his office in Chandigarh. The Mohali resident woman had previously lodged a complaint against Singh for sexual harassment at his church in Jalandhar, the Church of Glory and Wisdom. She had alleged that Singh had been making sexual advances and sending lewd messages to her.
Following the recent charges, the Punjab police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur, to thoroughly probe the case. The Punjab State Women's Commission also took suo motu cognizance of the matter and asked authorities to provide security to the complainant.
Also, in 2022, Bajinder Singh was accused of cheating a Delhi family by accepting money from them for treating their daughter, who unfortunately died despite his claims of healing powers.
