Can’t resort to violence to expel Chinese out of Tibet: Dalai Lama

“We cannot resort to violence and banish the Chinese out of our land. However, we can definitely learn to coexist peacefully through the approach of middle way policy while we continue to preserve our own identity," Dalai Lama said while addressing a gathering on the occasion of 25th Shoton festival, in Dharamshala. The Dalai Lama further praised Buddhism for its interest among Chinese and for the religion’s scientific approach.

His holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Buddhist spiritual leader, on Thursday said that Tibetans can’t use violence to expel Chinese out of Tibet and advocated peace while preserving the Tibetan identity, news agency PTI reported.

“We cannot resort to violence and banish the Chinese out of our land. However, we can definitely learn to coexist peacefully through the approach of middle way policy while we continue to preserve our own identity," Dalai Lama said while addressing a gathering on the occasion of 25th Shoton festival, in Dharamshala.

The Dalai Lama further praised Buddhism for its interest among Chinese and for the religion’s scientific approach.

"There is widespread interest among the Chinese today towards Tibetan Buddhism and its scientific approach that relies on logic and reasoning through investigation," Dalai lama said.

"Even scientists around the world are experimenting with the viability of the correlation of science and Buddhism," he added.

Shoton Festival, the most popular festival in Tibet, is celebrated annually in the 6th month of the Tibetan calendar. Shoton in Tibetan means Yogurt banquet, celebrations are marked by Tibetan artists performing Tibetan Operas and monasteries display large Thangkas- Buddha paintings. Sho" means Yoghurt and "ton" means banquet in Tibetan.

 The issue of Tibet and China is not new, China claims Tibet to be its own territory and Peaceful Tibetans believe that Tibet has been an independent country, historically.
