As Bihar's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters' rolls moves into a crucial stage, the state's election department has officially approached political parties to exchange lists of voters who need to be verified.
The names of 43.93 lakh people who were not found at their registered addresses during the door-to-door verification and 29.62 lakh electors who have not returned their enumeration forms have been given to party representatives in accordance with officials.
In a joint effort, 12 national political parties have been requested to activate their local cadre — district presidents and about 1.5 lakh booth-level operators — to assist in tracing and authenticating these voters.
"This is to ensure that the whole election machinery, including the political parties, function as a team in a mission mode so that no eligible elector is left out," – Election Commission of India, July 21
The preliminary voters list will be published on August 1, when members of the public can furnish objections, make deletion requests, or ask for corrections, the Election Commission furthered.
The move comes as part of efforts to maintain an updated and error-free electoral database for the state of Bihar ahead of the upcoming elections.
