Former media executive Indrani Mukerjea who was jailed for murdering her own daughter Sheena Bora has claimed that Sheena is alive and in Kashmir. Indrani wrote to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that her daughter is alive and has requested the investigation agency for further investigation on the issue and to search for her in Jammu and Kashmir, according to news agency ANI. Indrani Mukerjea, being kept at Byculla jail of Mumbai since 2015, has sent the letter from the jail and the letter was written based on the input shared by her cell inmate, ANI reported quoting its sources. However, Indrani's lawyer Sana Raees Khan has refused to comment on the content of the letter.

Prime accused of Sheena Bora murder case, her mother Indrani, has written to CBI that one of her prison cell inmates from Byculla, Mumbai had told her that she had seen Sheena in Kashmir some time ago. Indrani urged CBI to look into the matter and investigate the possibility of Sheena being alive and in Kashmir.
2. Since the mysterious murder case of Sheena surfaced up, Indrani had maintained her stand on Sheena being alive and had also claimed that she had gone abroad for education. However, she did have solid evidence to prove her claims.
3. "She wrote to the CBI, we have no details of what she wrote," said her lawyer Sana Khan on Thursday, adding that she will move a formal application for bail.
4. Indrani was arrested in 2015 after the investigators had said that 24-year-old Bora was strangled to death in a car by her mother and helped by her driver Shyamvar Rai, ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna. After strangling Sheena to death, they burnt her body in a forest. Later, the investigation also revealed that her second husband Peter Mukerjea was also aware of the bizarre murder plan.
5. The horrifying death mystery came to light after three years in 2015 when Indrani Mukherjee's driver Rai was arrested by the Mumbai Police in an illegal arms case and the case was then handed over to the CBI.
6. The CBI had then filed three charge sheets, first was filed against Rai and Indrani for being the prime accused in the murder case. The charge sheet also mentioned that Indrani killed Sheena as she had developed a relationship with Rahul Mukerjea, one of Peter Mukerjea's two sons from his previous marriage. Other than the relationship, other financial matters were also considered by the CBI.
7. In 2016, two other charge sheets were filed against Peter Mukerjea and Indrani Mukerjea for being involved in the murder plan and for enacting the murder, respectively. The CBI had said that Indrani took the drastic step as she thought her Vidhie would receive nothing if Sheena had married Rahul and ended with all the property.
8. After the trials in 2017, both Indrani and Peter were charged with murder and conspiracy. Later in 2019, Indrani had Peter got divorced and Peter also got bail in 2020 after spending four years in jail. Indrani had also filed a plea for bail which was rejected as she played an active role in the abduction, murder, and disposal of the body of Sheena Bora.
