Dell began his career at the age of 19 by selling upgrade kits for personal computers in Room 2713 of the Dobie Center residential building. Later, in January 1984, Dell registered his company as "PC's Limited". Operating out of a condominium. In May, he incorporated the company as 'Dell Computer Corporation' and relocated to a business center in North Austin.

At the age of 27, in 1992, Dell became the youngest CEO of a company ranked in Fortune magazine's list of the top 500 corporations. Within a span of 4 years, he started selling computers over the Web. The Internet helped his business grow faster, and soon his company, Dell Inc. reported about $1 million in sales per day from dell.com.

In 2021, Dell surpassed Compaq to become the world's largest PC maker. Eventually, the company's combined shipments of desktops, notebooks, and servers grew 34.3 percent worldwide and 30.7 percent in the United States.

In 1998, Michael Dell founded MSD Capital L.P., a private investment firm to manage the capital of Dell and his family.

On March 4, 2004, Michael stepped down as CEO, but stayed as chairman of Dell Inc.'s board, and eventually Kevin Rollins, then president and COO became president and CEO.

However, following the request of the board, Dell became the CEO of the company again on January 31, 2007.

On September 7, 2016, Dell acquired the EMC Corporation, the enterprise software, and storage company, at $67 billion. With this much value, it has been labeled the "highest-valued tech acquisition in history".

Over the years, he has received several accolades,  including "Top CEO in American Business" from Worth magazine; "CEO of the Year" from Financial World, Industry Week, and Chief Executive magazines. Dell also received the 1998 Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement and the 2013 Franklin Institute's Bower Award for Business Leadership.

On February 23, 1965, Michael Saul Dell was born in Houston, to a Jewish family.  He attended his school at Herod Elementary School in Houston. Later he attended Memorial High School in Houston. And for his graduation, he went to the University of Texas in 1983. He married Susan Lieberman on October 28, 1989, in Austin, Texas and the couple is blessed with 4 children.
