Ashneer Grover: Know the fintech maestro who wrote BharatPe's success story

Ashneer was born on June 14, 1982, in Delhi. His father is a chartered accountant and his mother is a teacher. He pursued his Graduation from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi. After that, Ashneer did his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management. He also did B.tech in Civil Engineering from Institut National des Sciences appliques de Lyon for which he was selected among one of the six students for an exchange program in France.

Ashneer is the Co-founder at Bharatpe. He also held the post of Managing Director at BharatPe but has recently resigned from the post over allegation that his family was inappropriately using the company's funds. After his resignation, he said, "he will continue to be the single largest shareholder of the company". Ashneer has a net worth of $600 million to $900 million( as per FY2021), according to media reports. His company BharatPe today has approximately 1 crore+ downloads on the Play store. The company is valued at $2.8 million, according to reports.  He became a household name after his appearance as a judge in Indian TV show ' Shark tank India'.

After completing his education in the year 2006, he joined Kotak Investment Banking as a VP(Vice President). Ashneer worked at the company for more than seven years. After that, In the year 2013, he started working as a Director in Corporate Development at American Express for around a year. He was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer at Grofers in the year 2015 and worked there for around 2 years. Later on, Ashneer joined PC Jeweller Ltd as a Head of New Business in 2017 

In 2018, Ashneer founded the payment company BharatPe. He along with business partners Shashvat Nakrani and Bhavik Koladiya launched the app which is today one of the famous and most used payment applications. According to a media report, within one month of launching the payment application, he formed a network of 11 lakh merchants and served 15 million monthly transactions.

BharatPe is a Fintech company. The services it offers are interoperable QR codes for payments and to help small business financing. It helps small grocery stores and merchants to maintain their sales. The app has become a famous platform for small Kirana business stores.

Ashneer was also named in the list of 40 under 40 India's brightest young Business minds by fortune India in 2021.

Ashneer Grover became a popular name after his appearance in the first Indian Tv business reality show Shark Tank India. A show where new entrepreneurs and startups pitched their ideas in front of seven judges and were selected per their ideas. The judges invested in their business in exchange for a certain amount of equity in their company.

Ashneer tied the knot with Madhuri Jain on July 04, 2006. Madhuri is also an entrepreneur and used to look after after HR, finance, and internal operations in BharatPe company. She also had to leave the company over allegations of misuse of office. The couple is blessed with two children Avy(Son) and Mannat(Daughter).

In an interview, Ashneer's wife opened up about his career and said,"He wanted to do something different than what a corporate job expected of him. We all understood that the path may not be smooth and have lots of risks. But since he was determined, there was no question of not supporting him".
