Aman Gupta: Know the man behind your favorite audio brand 'boAt'

Aman Gupta was born on August 16 in the year 1982 to Neeraj Gupta and Jyoti Kochar Gupta. He completed his schooling at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, and pursued graduation at Delhi University in Commerce. Aman did his CA from ICAI(Institute of Chartered Accountants) and MBA from the Indian School of Business in Finance and Strategy.  

Aman Gupta, one of the leading entrepreneurs in India, is the co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at boAt. He became a household name after he appeared as a judge on the Indian reality TV show Shark Tank India. Aman has an estimated net worth of approximately $95 million, according to media reports. The company clocked a whopping Rs 500 crore revenue in FY2020. The company is one of the top leading headphones sellers in India today. The brand has approximately 28% of the market share, according to reports.

Aman started working in Citi Bank as an assistant manager in the year 2003. In 2005, he along with his father started the company Advanced Telemedia Pvt Ltd and worked there as CEO and Co-founder. Aman also held the position of Senior Management consultant at KMPG in 2011. After then he worked as a Director in Sales at HARMAN international company from March 2012 to December 2013. He is one of the founding members of Imagine Marketing of India.  

In the year 2016, Aman with partner Sameer Mehta founded the electronic company boAt.  The brand manufactures fashionable headsets earphones, travel charging cables, and all other audio-based items. The brand majorly targets the young age group, caters to the fashion preferred by teenagers.

The aim of the company was to provide India with Made in India products replacing Chinese items. The brand has 5,000 retail stores, selling a huge stock of more than 10,000 units per day. The e-commerce channels of the brand are very strong around 80% of its sales are derived from Amazon and Flipkart. The sales of the company in the year 2017 were 27 crores which were overtaken by the sales in the year 2018 with a whopping amount of 108 crores. In 2020, the sales increased to 500 crores. The company is growing at a high profitable rate in Indian markets.

boAt company deals in best quality audio and electronic products. The company is an Indian electronics brand. In a very short span of time, the demand for their products has grown to a very high level. Even by having tough competition in the Indian market, the company has still managed to be one of the best today.  

The first item launched by the brand was an apple charging cable and charger. The product got huge popularity and demand because of the price and durability it served.

In an interview, Aman said that to increase the demand for their products, they use to interact with people to understand their needs and requirements.

"We talk to consumers in a language they understand. Millennials are very impatient, and if we don't evolve with them, then we are dead".

The brand has overtaken some top brands of the markets like Apple, Samsung, Sony, and others to become one of the best wearable brands. The prices of their products are less as compared to the other high brands which make it a major attraction for the Indian people.

Aman was one of the judges at the television reality show Shark tank India. The show is the first business program on Indian television, it focuses on new business ideas and startups.

Aman Gupta now has invested in many companies including WickedGud, Shiprocket, Skippi Ice Pops, and many others. He is an angel investor.

 Aman Gupta tied the knot with Priya Daggar 2008. The couple is blessed with two girls, Mia Gupta and Adaa Gupta.

Aman won the Businessworld young Entrepreneur award in 2019 and in the same year he was listed in Entrepreneur India Tech 25 class. He was the winner of the super 30 CMO's and was mentioned in under 40 achievers by Bussienessworld in 2020. Aman was also facilitated by the Lokmat Most Stylish Entrepreneur of the year. In 2020 and 2021, his company boAt became the World's Top 5 Wearable Brand in India.
