Soon after completing her graduation from Harvard Business School in 1988, Johnson joined Fidelity Investments as an analyst and portfolio manager. In 2001, she was elevated to President of Fidelity Asset Management.

In 2005, Abigail became Head of Retail, Workplace, and Institutional Business. She was further promoted and named president in 2012.

After working for 25+ years in fidelity, in 2014 she became CEO of the company, and in 2016 she became chairman as well.

Under her tenure, in 2018, she introduced cryptocurrency investment at Fidelity, making it possible for institutional investors to trade bitcoin and ethereum.

Abigail Pierrepont Johnson did her schooling from  Cambridge, Massachusetts private school Buckingham Browne and Nichols and received graduation from Hobart and William Smith college with a bachelor of arts degree in art history in 1984. Later, she did MBA from Harvard Business School.
