Actress Ananya Panday is prepping for an onscreen role in the upcoming streaming series, Call Me Bae, and she may look a lot like the moneyed character she is playing, but is quite rooted in real life.
At the cent of Thursday's trailer launch event at a luxury hotel in Bandra, Mumbai, Ananya narrated a personal experience about using a rickshaw, which is the common mode of transport for a middle-class person in Mumbai. The trailer saw a similar instance where the character gets into a rickshaw for the first time and inquires if it has a seatbelt.
While speaking to the media here, Ananya Panday revealed that every time when her father, Chunky Panday, would take out the car for running errands, she would travel the rickshaw to come home from her Kathak classes. When asked when was the last time that she traveled by a rickshaw, she replied, "Just a month ago."
The major roles in Call Me Bae are also by Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur. The series peeps into the life of Bae, played by Ananya, as she faces all the challenges Mumbai throws at her, having come from an affluent family in Delhi.
Produced by Ishita Moitra, who also co-wrote the show with Samina Motlekar and Rohit Nair, the series is directed by Collin D'Cunha and will premiere on Prime Video from September 6.
