When Vidya Balan Was 'Kicked Out' of a Major Tamil Film

The disappoitment came after the shelving of a much-expected project starring superstar Mohanlal. Old video of Balan speaking about how she was termed 'jinxed' after her first film was shelved has been surfacing online again.

Actress Vidya Balan had once shared how one difficult period in her career came when she was replaced in many South Indian films.

The disappoitment came after the shelving of a much-expected project starring superstar Mohanlal. Old video of Balan speaking about how she was termed 'jinxed' after her first film was shelved has been surfacing online again. In the video, she is seen saying, "For one and a half years in the South, no matter what I did, it never materialized. I was labeled 'jinxed' after signing two major Malayalam films, both of which were stalled in the middle, with 50 percent of the shooting already completed."

Adds, "When I first did my feature film with Mohanlal in Malayalam, I received 7-8 film offers after my first schedule. The only problem was that the film got shelved after the first schedule. Not only did the film get shelved, but I was also replaced in all the other films. I was labeled jinxed after that.". It really shook my confidence when I was suddenly replaced in all those films. I was even thrown out of a very big Tamil film at the time, too, so it was quite a turbulent period.

Vidya made her film debut with the Bengali film "Bhalo Theko" in 2003. She ventured into Bollywood with "Parineeta" in 2005. The Pradeep Sarkar-directed musical romantic comedy earned the actress critical acclaim and shot her to instant fame.
