Vijay Sethupathi, renowned for his versatile performances in South Indian cinema, initially had reservations about his career prospects in Bollywood due to language constraints. However, his foray into Hindi cinema with "Mumbaikar" and "Gandhi Talks" surprised him with the warm reception from a new audience.

The 45-year-old actor, recognized for his roles in "Pizza," "96," "Vikram Vedha," "Master," and "Super Deluxe," found unexpected success in Hindi projects like "Farzi" and "Jawan." Initially hesitant due to language concerns, Sethupathi worried about potential trolling for his accent in the Hindi film "Farzi," where he portrayed a Special Task Force officer named Michael Vedanayagam. However, contrary to his fears, his performance and dialogue delivery resonated well with the audience.

Sethupathi attributed the surge in Bollywood offers to the support and enthusiasm of his fans, generating interest among filmmakers and writers who saw him as a suitable fit for various roles.

His upcoming film, "Merry Christmas," directed by Sriram Raghavan, starring alongside Katrina Kaif, is a thriller slated for a theatrical release on January 12. Sethupathi expressed excitement about working with Raghavan, citing his admiration for Raghavan's past works like "Ek Hasina Thi," "Badlapur," and "Andhadhun."

Reflecting on his desire to play a character akin to Nawazuddin Siddiqui's role in "Badlapur," Sethupathi recalled meeting Raghavan and eventually landing the opportunity to collaborate on "Merry Christmas," describing it as a memorable experience. In the film, set over one night, Sethupathi portrays Albert, a character in search of love and fighting against destiny.

Despite having no specific expectations, Sethupathi's admiration for Raghavan's craftsmanship grew during their time together on set, leading to immense respect for the director as both a professional and a person.

"Merry Christmas," presented by Tips Films and Matchbox Pictures, is set to unveil the story of two strangers on a thrilling journey.
