The discussions we have had regarding Les Grossman are so f---ing hilarious," McQuarrie, 56, told the interviewer.

McQuarrie also added that between the grueling challenges of shooting "The Final Reckoning," talking about the outrageous personality of Les Grossman was a welcome relief.

In the 2008 Ben Stiller film, Cruise’s Grossman is famous for his explosive temper, oversized hands, and some unexpectedly hilarious dance moves.

“Just to be sitting at a breakfast table not talking about the movie we’re making for a minute is such decompression. And just riffing with Tom playing Les Grossman at the table, it was one of the real joys of making this movie,” McQuarrie said.

"It was all the stuff we were doing, living in the future while fighting out the present."

In his recent endeavor, Cruise reprised the character of Ethan Hunt in what could be the last of the Mission: Impossible series, which was greeted with a standing ovation of five minutes at the Cannes Film Festival.

In a video posted by The Hollywood Reporter's Chris Gardner, Cruise thanked the festival crowd for the applause, stating he was "very grateful" to have worked on the series for more than 30 years.
