The much-awaited second season of the popular series The Last of Us is all scheduled to begin on HBO from April 13, according to the US cable network.
Starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in central characters, the series is based on the very successful PlayStation video game of the same name. Initially released on HBO in 2023, it received universal appreciation from critics and was renewed for a second season.
"Every path has a price. #TheLastOfUs returns April 13 on Max," HBO posted on Instagram, with a pair of character posters of Pascal and Ramsey supporting the news.
Taking place two decades after the fall of modern civilization, the plot follows Joel (Pascal), a hardened survivor, as he is assigned to escort 14-year-old Ellie (Ramsey) out of a highly militarized quarantine area.
The next season is set five years after the first season.
"Joel and Ellie are pulled into battle with one another and an even more treacherous and unstable world than the one they knew," declares the official synopsis.
In addition to Pascal and Ramsey, Gabriel Luna and Rutina Wesley will continue to play Tommy and Maria, respectively.
The season will also feature some new faces, such as Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac.
Furthermore, veteran actress Catherine O'Hara will be making a guest appearance on the show.
Developed by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who also created the original video game, The Last of Us is penned and executive-produced by both, along with both acting as directors as well.
The production of the show is done by PlayStation Productions, Word Games, Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog.
US audiences can watch The Last of Us on Max, while in India, it can be streamed on JioHotstar.
