It’s been a year and the truth behind the demise of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput is still deep under the ground. A year ago, on the morning of June 14, 2020, the body of the engineer-turned-actor was found in his duplex flat in Bandra in Mumbai. The death of the actor shook the whole cinema fraternity and left everyone numb.

Even after a year, the death of SSR is still a mystery. In last one year, the investigation has taken several dramatic turns and has dragged number of people into this case. Was it a murder or a suicide, What was the nepotism/groupism angle, and Why NCB and drug gang came into the scene? Here are 5 big questions related to SSR death that still remain unanswered.

1. Was Sushant murdered or he took his own life?

This one question has been the biggest controversy of the nation for a long time now. The Mumbai Police did not find any suicide note from Sushant's flat which is why the matter was initially viewed with suspicion. But now even after so many months of probe by the country's biggest investigative agencies like CBI, ED, NCB, this question is still unanswered.

2. Did Mental illness take Sushant’s life?

In the ADR report filed by Mumbai Police, the family of the actor has stated that he had been “feeling low” since 2013 and had sought psychiatric help. SSR's therapist Susan Walker in her statement to the Mumbai police also said "His anxiety had increased a lot in 2013-14. When he was young, he had taken A***l medicine, twice every week to increase his concentration, as a treatment of ADHD." While the investigation is talking so much about the drugs, Rhea and Nepotism, why is so little mention of his mental illness in the reports?

3. What was the Nepotism angle and why it was so hyped?

Soon after the death of actor’s death, the nepotism theory came into the scene. Many Bollywood actors talked about nepotism and how the Bollywood mafia can be behind Sushant’s murder. The media left no stone unturned to cover this factor that made the Mumbai Police record statements of prominent filmmakers such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra, and Mahesh Bhatt. However, the investigation proved futile. After some time,  this factor was no longer being talked about . The question here arises is why was the nepotism theory given undue coverage and why it was dumped without questioning those who pushed the steaming rumors.

4. What was the connection between drugs and Sushant’s Death?

When the police got their hand on the financial irregularities, the light came on the drug angle. During the investigation, Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Shouvik Chakraborty were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). But mearly a month after her arrest, the  actress got bai and after two months, Shouvik also came out of jail on bai. Sushant's flatmate, Samuel Miranda, and chef Dipesh Sawant were also detained by the NCB for allegedly supplying and consuming drugs. But the question here is that when the NCB got so many leads why are tbey still not able to connect the dots between SSR’s death and drugs.

5. Why Aditya Thackrey’s name came up in the investigation?

A few months after SSR’s death, BJP MP Narayan Rane made some startling statements linking Sushant and his ex-manager Disha Salain’s death case, which clearly dragged Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's son and minister Aaditya Thackeray into this mysterious death. Rane alleged that night before Sushant's death, there was mention of the participation of these people in the party held at his house. The CCTV footage outside Sushant's house was also alleged to have gone missing. This statement started the media trail against Aditya Thackrey but he denied all the allegations by issuing a statement. The statement and the lack of proper evidence halted the allegations. Even though the media trialstopped, the question of political pressure behind SSR’s death still stays alive.
