The reason behind the death of model and actress Shefali Jariwala is not clear, as per the statement issued by the Mumbai Police on Saturday. Her body was taken for a postmortem to determine the cause of her untimely death. It was previously reported that the Kaanta Laga fame actress died due to a cardiac arrest.
Shefali, 42, had reportedly been admitted to Bellevue Hospital in Mumbai by her husband Parag Tyagi and three others. But hospital staff at the reception confirmed that she had been pronounced dead on arrival.
Despite some initial reports, police officials said that Shefali was found dead at her Andheri residence. The authorities are investigating the cause of her death.
"Mumbai Police were informed of this at 1 am. The body has been taken to Cooper Hospital for postmortem. The reason for death is not yet established," ANI reported police officials as saying.
The police and forensic team went to the actor's house earlier today as part of the ongoing investigation.
Videos circulating online showed a visibly distressed Parag Tyagi leaving the hospital. He partially covered his face with his hand while seated in a vehicle, clearly shaken by the tragic event.
News of Shefali’s demise was first made public by journalist Vickey Lalwani on social media. "Shefali Jariwala, the Kaanta Laga girl, is no more," read a part of his emotional post.
Shefali became popular when she was just 20 years old with her role in the popular music video Kaanta Laga. She appeared in many Bollywood music albums and movies over the years, establishing herself in the entertainment field.
Shefali, along with her husband Parag, also made appearances on the dance reality shows Nach Baliye 5 and Nach Baliye 7. She then became a part of Bigg Boss 13, winning more popularity.
The actor has been married to Harmeet Singh in 2004 previously, but she divorced him in 2009. She married actor Parag Tyagi in 2015.
