Singer-actress Selena Gomez recently revealed that she felt an overwhelming urge to “cry” after landing a role in the upcoming French musical crime comedy, Emilia Perez, directed by Jacques Audiard.
Selena took to Instagram to share her excitement, posting a collection of pictures and videos. In one video, she expressed her disbelief, saying, "I can't believe I got the movie… I am so gonna cry right now. I don't want to cry... This is going to be so cool."
Among the images she shared was one of her hugging her mother and others from dress rehearsals. One particular image appeared to be from the film’s set, which features co-stars Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofía Gascon, Adriana Paz, Mark Ivanir, and Edgar Ramírez.
In the caption, Selena wrote, "I found out I got the part for @emiliaperezfilm and the sessions in between lol."
*Emilia Perez* tells the story of a frustrated lawyer who is given the job of helping a Mexican cartel leader, who has escaped, undergo sex reassignment surgery to both evade capture and embrace her true gender.
Earlier this month, Selena spoke about her admiration for her co-star, the legendary Meryl Streep.
"She was so excited, and when she came on set, she told everybody that she loves the show, and I don’t even think I spoke the first day she was around, I was just admiring her,” Gomez, who appeared alongside the 75-year-old icon in season three of *Only Murders in the Building*, shared.
"She’s an inspiration, and she’s someone who is incredibly talented while being very humble, professional, and kind. I’ve learned so much from her just by her being Meryl," she told The Hollywood Reporter.
Reflecting on her time on set, Gomez added, “My favourite moment was watching Meryl sing onstage. That was chilling, and she would do it acappella, live every time, and I cried. I wasn’t in the scene, but I was there sitting in the audience, and I was completely moved and was brought to tears.”
“Just the way she commits to her craft in every way is remarkable. It was beautiful.”
