Actress Rani Mukerji recently reflected on why her role as Shivani Shivaji Roy in "Mardaani" is so special to her, as the film marks its 10th anniversary in Hindi cinema.
Mukerji shared, “Shivani Shivaji Roy is undoubtedly my favorite character. She embodies a bold, relentless spirit, standing firm for justice no matter the obstacles. She challenges traditional gender roles in cinema and demonstrates how a woman can lead decisively in a predominantly male arena.”
To commemorate a decade since the release of "Mardaani," the film’s creators have announced an exciting new chapter for the franchise. Rani Mukerji expressed her gratitude for the enduring support and praise she has received.
She stated, “I am incredibly proud of the ‘Mardaani’ series. It continues to resonate and inspire. The affection, admiration, and respect I’ve garnered from this franchise is truly heartwarming.”
On Thursday morning, Yash Raj Films, the production house behind the film, teased fans with a glimpse of the next installment. They posted a teaser on YouTube that revisits moments from the original 2014 release.
The production company’s post read: “Celebrating 10 years of #Mardaani and teasing the next chapter… Here’s to the courageous and dynamic cop #ShivaniShivajiRoy and the spirit of #Mardaani. Excited to reprise her role, Mukerji expressed her enthusiasm about returning to the iconic character. She said: “I’m looking forward to bringing back Shivani Shivaji Roy on the big screen soon. It’s been a while since I have donned the cop uniform and paid tribute to the women police force of our country.”
“Each (woman cop) one of them relentlessly works hard to keep our families safe and I have always loved to salute these fearless women. Shivani will be back and I hope you will give as much love to her as you have always showered for 10 years now!” added the actress.
