Hollywood heavyweights Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are joining forces again, this time as producers on a new film based on an original idea from Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

The film, which takes place in Hawaii, is in the process of being shopped to studios and streaming services. Variety reports that early word in the industry has already compared the project to The Departed and Goodfellas.

Though no official agreements have been made yet, the future of the project depends on acquiring a distributor, several sources close to the package have disclosed. The untitled drama will be written by journalist and author Nick Bilton, who directed the 2021 HBO documentary Fake Famous.

Having worked on Jungle Cruise previously, Johnson and Blunt got the idea, took it to Scorsese and DiCaprio. With the duo keen, they enlisted Bilton for the screenplay.

The producers of the movie, according to Variety, are Scorsese, DiCaprio, Johnson, Blunt, Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn.

The excitement over the project is compounded by Johnson and Blunt's future teaming on The Smashing Machine, an A24 drama directed by Benny Safdie. Praised as Johnson's most serious dramatic performance yet, the movie further stoked interest in their combined efforts.

In the meantime, Scorsese and DiCaprio keep reinforcing their mythic collaboration, having given us some of the best movies of their careers, including The Departed, The Aviator, Gangs of New York, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and last year's Oscar-nominated Killers of the Flower Moon.

Deadline exclusively reported the news on the upcoming movie.
