Daniel Craig No Longer Linked to Luca Guadagnino's 'Sgt. Rock'

We earlier reported that the film was to be directed by Luca Guadagnino, with Justin Kuritzkes, who also collaborated on Guadagnino's previous films Challengers and Queer, being hired to pen the script.

Luca Guadagnino's work with Daniel Craig for DC Studios' Sgt. Rock has broken down, and sources have verified that Craig will not be playing the character. The two had originally planned to work on a project together after Queer, but those plans are no longer moving forward. The specific reason why Craig dropped out is still unknown.

Sgt. Rock, developed by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, first appeared in Our Army at War #83 in 1959. A central character in Easy Company during World War II's European Theatre, Rock is a comic book icon. Various attempts have been made over the years to bring his story to the big screen, with different writers and drafts being considered. Rock also first appeared in the DC Universe on an episode of Creature Commandos in which he guest-starred as a G.I. robot. 

Guadagnino is being repped by CAA, Range Media Partners, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher, and Craig is represented by CAA, Independent Talent Group, and Glaser Weil Fink Jacobs Howard Avchen & Shapiro.
