Malaika Arora shared a statement in the wake of her father, Anil Kuldip Mehta's demise on Wednesday. While reports earlier cited his name as Anil Arora, the official statement of the actress and the name of her father she used has left the netizens confused.
Taking to her Instagram, Malaika shared a note wherein she said that the family was still in shock and requested them to give the family their privacy in these testing times. However, no sooner did the actress put up the post than Internet users were seen questioning the last name of her father in the comments section.
One wrote, "How come her last name is Arora and her father's last name is Mehta?
Another wrote, "Is he her stepfather?"
Some users also pointed to the difference in the ages of Malaika and Anil, as the latter is just 12 years older than her.
A user wrote, "Father's age is just 12 years more than her? How?" Other users didn't take this comment easy. One replied to the comment saying, "He's her step-father."
A close source informed IANS that he was indeed her stepfather.
Anil Mehta, 52, fell from the 6th floor of his residence in the Ayesha Manor building, located in the Bandra area of Mumbai, around 9.00 am Wednesday, while the actress was on her way to Pune to attend an event.
She was born in Thane, Maharashtra. Her parents divorced when she was 11 years old and she shifted to Chembur along with her mother and sister Amrita Arora. Her mother, Joyce Polycarp, is a Malayali Christian while her father, Anil Arora was a Punjabi who worked in the Indian Merchant Navy.
Reports inform that Joyce Polycarp, the mother of Malaika and Amrita Arora, has informed the Mumbai Police about the tragic incident of her ex-husband Anil Arora. At the time of the unfortunate incident, Joyce was in the house. Media reports claimed that in the morning she found the slippers of Anil in the living room and then started searching for him on the balcony.
Not finding him on the balcony, she peered over the railing below. That's when she knew something was horribly wrong. According to reports, Anil called both his girls saying, "I'm tired" before he is alleged to have fallen off the balcony.
