Bollywood actress Malaika Arora spoke for the first time when her dad, Anil Kuldip Mehta, died Wednesday. Up until now, he has been referred to as Anil Arora by media outlets because of which some confusion has been caused among the netizens about which is his surname.
The actress took to Instagram and shared a note saying that her family is in shock at the instant moment, urging being left alone during this trying time. But no sooner did she post than questions started cropping about her father's surname from Internet users.
While one user asked: "How come she has Arora as a surname and he has Mehta?", another asked: "Is he her stepfather?"
The commenters pointed out that Malaika and Anil are only separated in age by 12 years. One user posted, "Father's age is just 12 years more than her? How?" Another user then replied to him, "He's her step-father."
A family friend has now confirmed to IANS that Anil Mehta is, indeed, Malaika's stepfather.
Anil Mehta, 65, fell from the 6th floor of his Ayesha Manor building in Bandra, Mumbai, around 9:00 am Wednesday morning, while Malaika was on her way to Pune for attending an event.
She was born in Thane, Maharashtra. Her parents divorced when she was just 11 years old. Later, Malaika shifted to Chembur in Mumbai along with her mother and sister Amrita Arora. Her mother, Joyce Polycarp, is a Malayali Christian, while her biological father, Anil Arora, was a Punjabi, who worked in the Indian Merchant Navy.
According to sources, the mother of Malaika and Amrita named Joyce Polycarp has shared every detail regarding the incident with Mumbai Police. Joyce said that she was in the house when Anil fell. "On the morning of the incident, I had seen his slippers in the living room. Immediately, I went to check the balcony but did not find him there, and looked over the railing; something seemed to have gone wrong. According to reports, Anil had called both his daughters saying "I'm tired" prior to his alleged fall.
