Karan Johar calls ‘paid PR and herd mentality' the reason behind Bollywood downfall

Speaking to Film Companion, Karan said, “I think we are victims of everything we should be running away from like paid PR. I think we are also victims of herd mentality. I feel that filmmakers from the South know what they want and they’re not seeking validation. They have the conviction that just isn’t present in our cinema where everyone just hops on whatever trend is popular.”

The debate on North vs South cinema has been going on for a long time now. Celebrities including, Mahesh Babu. Akshay Kumar and many more have given their takes on fading dominance of Bollywood in the Indian industry and South Indian movies winning the race.

Now Bollywood ace director and producer, Karan Johar has come forward to share his opinion on why Bollywood has failed to do good business at the box office after the reopening of cinema halls.

Karan further talked about how he himself sought acceptance from others when he decided to step out of his comfort zone and try his hands at a different kind of genre than what he had been making.

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Karan Johar is busy filming for Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, which stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. The film sees his return to direction after almost six years.
