However, behind the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry, Lopez has encountered the darker side of technological advancements, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI).
Reflecting on her unsettling experience, Lopez revealed her discomfort with skincare advertisements utilizing manipulated images of her visage. "Selling skincare that I know nothing about' using manipulated photos of her face covered in 'wrinkles', she told Variety at the Los Angeles premiere of Atlas."
"It's really scary. Right away we had them stealing our faces. So, yes, (AI) is really scary... I think you should be respectful of AI… We have to be open to all possibilities. These movies that are talking about AI — especially this one — do a really good job of showing both sides," she added. she emphasized.
In 'Atlas,' Lopez embodies the character of Atlas Shepherd, a skilled yet distrustful data analyst who harbors a profound apprehension towards AI. Her character becomes entangled in a high-stakes mission to apprehend a rogue robot portrayed by Simu Liu, with whom she shares an enigmatic connection from the past. However, as circumstances take unexpected turns, Shepherd finds herself compelled to place her trust in AI to safeguard the future of humanity.
The official plotline of the film reads, "But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it," encapsulating the thematic tension between fear and reliance on artificial intelligence.
'Atlas,' helmed by director Brad Peyton and penned by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite, also features notable talents such as Lana Parrilla and Mark Strong, adding depth to its exploration of the complexities surrounding AI and its implications for humanity.
